Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP central parliamentary board member BS Yediyurappa issued a strong warning on Saturday. He stated Governor Thaawar Chand Ghelot would be compelled to take action if CM Siddaramaiah does not step down.
The BJP has been pressuring Siddaramaiah to resign over allegations of his involvement in irregularities at the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).
At the inauguration of the ‘Mysuru Chalo’ padyatra organized by the BJP and JD(S), Yediyurappa urged Siddaramaiah to resign voluntarily to maintain his dignity and the party’s honour. “This is Siddaramaiah’s final chance. If he does not resign, Governor Ghelot will have to take action,” stated Yediyurappa.
He stressed it would be better for Siddaramaiah to resign on his own rather than face enforced action. Yediyurappa also highlighted that 8,000-10,000 party workers from each Assembly constituency are expected to participate in the Bengaluru-Mysuru foot march.
The BJP’s demand for Siddaramaiah’s resignation comes in the wake of the Governor issuing a show cause notice to the CM. The notice asks Siddaramaiah to explain why consent for his prosecution should not be granted, given the prima facie nature of the charges and a complaint already filed with the Karnataka Lokayukta. The deadline for Siddaramaiah’s response to the notice has passed.
