Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has addressed serious concerns from tribal communities regarding alleged identity suppression and forgery claims. In a meeting with prominent civil society organisations or CSOs, he responded to accusations that their signatures were forged in a complaint submitted to the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST).
The CSOs, including the Kharam Union Manipur, Kharam Pallen Village Authority, Federation of Haomee, Laikot Phaijol Village Authority, Kabui Union Manipur, Kom Tribe Organisation Valley, and Kangchup Chiru Village Authority, have strongly condemned a complaint filed by Paominlen Haokip. They claim that their consent was neither sought nor given for the complaint, which they argue misrepresented, their views.

The tribal representatives have called on Biren Singh to take action to invalidate the complaint and protect their community identities from misrepresentation.
In response, CM Biren demonstrated solidarity with the tribal groups by sharing a photo on X. “This is the essence of Manipur: Unity in Diversity. No force can ever tarnish this vibrant tapestry of colours that we see when I stand firmly with my brothers and sisters of the indigenous tribes of Manipur,” commented Biren Singh.
