The Opposition coalition in Assam has committed to preserving their unified alliance through to the 2026 State Assembly elections.
Originally formed by 16 parties, the United Opposition Forum Assam (UOFA) has now grown to encompass 18 parties.
During a meeting, the UOFA decided to present a united front in all upcoming elections over the next two years.
Congress spokesperson Bedabrat Bora affirmed that all member parties are united in their goal to defeat the BJP.
The coalition’s immediate focus will be on the upcoming panchayat elections scheduled for later this year.
CPI(M) central committee member Isfaqur Rahman highlighted that the meeting was aimed at addressing internal disagreements and enhancing coordination among the parties.
Additionally, the UOFA criticised the State Government for its inadequate response to flood and erosion issues, which they believe have not been effectively addressed in coordination with the Centre.
The expanded UOFA includes Congress, TMC, AAP, Raijor Dal, AJP, CPI(M), CPI, AIFB, CPI(ML), Jatiya Dal-Asom (U), Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (Sharad Pawar), Samajwadi Party, Purbanchal Lok Parishad (PLP), RJD, APHLC, Kamatapur Front, and Sonowal Kachari Gana Mancha.
