Following the resignation of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the establishment of an interim government led by Army Chief Waker-Uz-Zaman, the Border Security Force (BSF) has heightened security across the entire 4,096-kilometre Bharat-Bangladesh border, sources confirmed.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is closely monitoring the situation, and Acting Director General of BSF, Daljit Chawdhary, has arrived in Kolkata with senior officials to assess and strengthen border security measures.
BSF personnel have been instructed to maintain stringent surveillance to prevent unauthorised crossings from Bangladesh into Bharat and to thwart any potential smuggling or terrorist activities, according to an unnamed officer.
The BSF oversees 1,096 border outposts (BOPs) along the Indo-Bangladesh Border (IBB), stretching across West Bengal (2,216.7 km), Assam (263 km), Meghalaya (443 km), Tripura (856 km), and Mizoram (318 km).
The IBB is characterised by challenging terrain, including hills, rivers, and valleys, necessitating vigilant monitoring to curb illegal cross-border activities and unauthorised migration from Bangladesh into Bharat.
