Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has voiced strong support for the forthcoming Waqf Amendment Bill, viewing it as a crucial measure for ensuring justice for Muslim women. He expressed eagerness to see the bill, highlighting its potential to address significant issues related to Muslim women’s rights and institute necessary reforms.
Although CM Himanta has not yet reviewed the draft or final version of the bill, he is aware of its anticipated amendments through media reports. He believes that these changes are essential for providing long-overdue justice to Muslim women and ensuring that Waqf property is allocated appropriately.
In his comments to the media, the CM stated, “I have not yet seen the draft or amendment bill, but from media reports, it appears that the Waqf bill will be amended. If this is the case, it represents a long-needed reform that will offer substantial justice to Muslim women. It will also ensure that Waqf property is distributed correctly.”
