Amidst the ongoing turmoil in Bangladesh, Meghalaya has enforced a night curfew along its international border with the neighbouring country on August 5, according to Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong.
“In response to the volatile situation, the State Government has decided to impose a night curfew along the international border with Bangladesh,” stated Tynsong.
Starting immediately last night, the curfew will be in effect from 6 pm to 6 am daily until further notice. This restriction applies within 200 metres of the Indian territory from the international border.
Tynsong mentioned that nine battalions of the Border Security Force (BSF) are currently guarding the Indo-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya. He assured that additional security forces would be deployed if necessary, with the Deputy Inspector General of BSF instructed to keep authorities updated.
The Meghalaya Police has also been instructed to support the BSF whenever needed.
Today, Tynsong chaired an important meeting with the DIG BSF (operation), the Director General of Police, Meghalaya, the Chief Secretary, and other police department officials to address the ongoing violence in Bangladesh.
