In preparation for the approaching bye-elections for five Assembly constituencies and the Panchayat polls in Assam, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), a crucial ally of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), has significantly ramped up its election strategies.
AGP president and Agriculture Minister Atul Bora unveiled numerous strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening the party’s organisational structure.
Bora elucidated the party’s plan, which features a week-long booth-level Sanmilan across Assam, set to begin on August 25.
He emphasised the importance of this initiative, saying, “Today, a pivotal meeting of AGP’s sister organisations was conducted where essential directives were issued. Our party workers are diligently preparing for the upcoming bye-elections and Panchayat polls. We have planned a series of programs.”
Bora continued, “From August 11 to August 13, meetings of our sister organisations will take place in each constituency. Additionally, we have scheduled a week-long booth Sanmilan from August 25. Furthermore, a three-day party workshop is planned in Guwahati from August 19 to 21.”
In related news, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the BJP would nominate candidates for three of the five Assembly constituencies in the forthcoming bye-elections, while the AGP and another ally, the United People’s Party Liberal-UPPL, would each contest one seat. The AGP will vie for the Bongaigaon Assembly seat, a constituency it has consistently controlled since 1985.
Additionally, Bora provided updates on the border negotiations between Assam and Mizoram, scheduled for August 9. These talks are part of ongoing efforts to resolve longstanding border disputes between the two States.
