The Meitei Alliance has sharply criticised the actions of 10 Kuki MLAs from Manipur, who on August 2, accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of leading an “ethnic cleansing campaign” against their communities. The MLAs opposed the Home Ministry’s decision to redeploy two Assam Rifles battalions from Manipur, a strategic move deemed essential by military planners for national security.
Labelling the accusations as defamatory and misleading, the Meitei Alliance argued that replacing the Assam Rifles with the CRPF is a routine security measure, not a conspiracy against any community. They asserted that the MLAs’ claims undermine the credibility of Bharat’s security forces and aim to malign the Home Ministry’s intentions.
The alliance expressed disappointment over the breakdown of the Cachar agreement between the Meitei and Hmar communities in Jiribam district, recently disrupted by arson attacks on Meitei homes. The Meitei Alliance called on the Kuki MLAs to focus on fostering peace and stability in the region.
Founded in November 2023, the Meitei Alliance represents Meitei diaspora associations across Bharat, Australia, the UK, Europe, Canada, the USA, and Nicaragua.
