Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, along with his close aide Bibhav Kumar, was present immediately following the alleged assault on AAP MP Swati Maliwal at the Chief Minister’s residence, reveals the chargesheet by Delhi Police.
The police investigation is now examining whether the proximity of the Chief Minister to the accused, coupled with the actions of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders afterward, indicates a possible coordinated effort to cover up the assault.
The chargesheet, which includes a case against Bibhav Kumar, suggests that there might be a larger conspiracy behind the assault. According to the police, the subsequent contradictory statements by AAP leaders Atishi and Sanjay Singh have raised suspicions of a potential cover-up.
On May 14, Sanjay Singh publicly condemned Bibhav Kumar’s actions and vowed strict measures. However, just three days later, Atishi dismissed Maliwal’s allegations at a press conference. This abrupt shift in stance within a short period has led the police to investigate whether these changes were part of a coordinated effort.
In her supplementary statement, Swati Maliwal expressed her belief in a broader conspiracy, citing the unified support for Bibhav Kumar from AAP leaders and workers as evidence of an orchestrated effort to discredit her. She has urged the police to explore this angle further.
The chargesheet also includes distressing eyewitness accounts. Maliwal reportedly suffered severe physical abuse from Bibhav Kumar, who allegedly slapped her multiple times, dragged her across the room, and kicked her repeatedly. An auto driver, who witnessed her distress, recounted Maliwal’s ordeal and her visible signs of trauma and distress.
