Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has strongly rebutted Opposition claims against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, asserting that the bill is not aimed at any particular group but rather seeks to improve the management of Waqf properties.
Joshi accused the Opposition of attempting to mislead the community and damage Bharat’s democratic image.
“We are not targeting anyone. They (Opposition) want to only create an atmosphere. Our minister will explain in detail when he introduces the bill. They want to misguide some people in the community. They are trying to tarnish the image of India. We are one of the best democracies in the world,” Joshi stated.
BJP national spokesperson CR Kesavan praised the initiative, attributing it to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s response to demands from the Muslim community. Kesavan noted that the Waqf Act of 1954 had not fully achieved its intended objectives, leading to numerous representations from the affected community.
He asserted that the bill would correct the misappropriations and misuse of Waqf properties, creating transparency, accountability, and inclusivity.
In addition to the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2024, Kiren Rijiju is also set to introduce The Mussalman Wakf Repeal Bill, 2024.
