Seasoned actor Raza Murad has voiced his support for increased censorship on Over-The-Top or OTT platforms, asserting on the need for regulation to uphold social and cultural values.
“In my opinion, there should definitely be censorship on OTT platforms,” Murad asserted. He compared censorship to airport security measures, explaining, “Censorship is like the screening area at the airport. Everything passes through the eyes of it. There are cameras and scanners there. So, if you are bringing any illegal items, they get detected and are stopped. You pass through customs’ scrutiny there.”
Murad stressed that the role of the Censor Board in reviewing films is crucial, especially in the absence of self-censorship. He expressed concern over offensive language and content that might negatively influence children. “Since self-censorship is not happening and there are such offensive words and dialogues, children learn and start speaking them,” he noted.
The actor advocated for legal repercussions if OTT platforms do not adhere to proper content standards, asserting, “If this freedom is not being used properly, then there should be censorship. And if they cross the line, there should be legal action taken against them.”
