Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat showcased an impressive performance at the Paris Olympics, advancing to the semi-finals of the men’s 57kg event, on Thursday. Sehrawat secured his spot in the final four with a commanding 12-0 technical superiority win over Albania’s Zelimkhan Abakanov.
Sehrawat’s journey to the semi-finals saw him overpower Abakanov after initially scoring from the Albanian wrestler’s passivity. He followed with a decisive takedown, taking a 3-0 lead in the first period.
His dominance continued into the second period, where his skilful execution ensured his place in the semi-finals. He will face Japan’s Rei Higuchi later on same day for a chance to compete for Bharat’s first gold medal at these Games.
Earlier in the day, Sehrawat had already made a statement by defeating former European champion Vladimir Egorov with a 10-0 technical superiority win in the opening round, which propelled him into the quarter-finals.
