Today, the Special Cell of the Delhi Police apprehended Rizwan Abdul Haji Ali, a prominent member of the Pune ISIS module, who was wanted with a reward of Rs 3 lakh on his head.
Ali, a resident of Daryaganj in Delhi, had been on the run after escaping from the custody of Pune police. The National Investigation Agency or NIA had issued a warrant for his arrest due to his involvement in planning terrorist activities.
Ali is alleged to have conducted reconnaissance of several high-profile targets in Delhi and Mumbai and was found with weapons in his possession. His arrest follows previous captures of other Pune ISIS module members by the Pune Police and the NIA.
Pune ISIS Module Case Overview
The case, which emerged in July 2023, involves 11 accused charged by the NIA for possessing arms, explosives, chemicals, and ISIS-related literature in Maharashtra city of Pune. Rizwan Ali was named in a supplementary chargesheet filed in March this year, alongside three other individuals.
The accused were linked to ISIS and were involved in a broader conspiracy to promote terrorism. They communicated with foreign handlers via secret apps, engaged in armed robberies for funds, and had received money for terror activities. They had also undergone IED fabrication training and conducted a controlled blast.
The NIA’s investigation revealed plans to attack various locations in Maharashtra and Gujarat, as well as training in shooting and terror tactics.
