Initiating action, the National Investigation Agency or NIA filed a chargesheet against four individuals, including a Pakistani handler, for their involvement in terrorist activities in Kashmir. The charges pertain to the killing of two civilians by members of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its affiliate, The Resistance Front (TRF), in February.
The accused are Adil Manzoor Langoo, Ahran Rasool Dar alias Tota, Dawood, and Jahangeer alias Peer Sahab, who is based in Pakistan. They face charges under numerous sections of the Indian Penal Code or IPC and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). A non-bailable warrant has been issued for the absconding Jahangeer by the NIA special court in Jammu.
The incident occurred on the evening of February 7 in Karfali Mohalla, Shala Kadal, Srinagar. The NIA’s investigation, which began in June, revealed that Langoo, who joined LeT in 2023, was motivated by his Pakistani handlers to carry out terrorist activities in Srinagar. Langoo, along with Dar and Dawood, executed the attack under Jahangeer’s direction.
Langoo and Dar received arms and ammunition from Jahangeer, which were used in the attack. Dawood assisted in destroying evidence post-crime.
The NIA asserted its ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in Kashmir, noting that LeT, despite being banned by the Indian Government, continues to operate through various offshoots. The agency also highlighted LeT/TRF’s strategy of recruiting unemployed youth via social media to further its agenda.
