In response to mounting pressure from the Khasi Students’ Union or KSU, the Meghalaya Public Service Commission-MPSC has agreed to publish the marks of all candidates, who appeared for the Meghalaya Civil Service (Preliminary) examinations within the next 24 hours. This decision follows intense protests led by the KSU on August 8.
KSU president Lambokstarwell Marngar announced the development after meeting with MPSC Chairman PR Marwein. Marngar revealed that, along with the release of marks, the commission would also provide both the incorrect and corrected answer keys for the Preliminary exams, including the correct answers to disputed questions. This move comes after concerns were raised about three erroneous questions in the examination.
Additionally, Marngar noted that the previous notification regarding the exams would be cancelled, and roll numbers for candidates might change after the interviews are conducted.
The protests on August 8 saw the KSU burning an effigy of the commission outside the MPSC office. The effigy bore words like “corruption” and “nepotism,” reflecting the union’s frustration over what it perceives as a lack of transparency and potential malpractice within the MPSC. The KSU argued that the commission’s initial refusal to release the candidates’ marks raised serious concerns about the integrity of the recruitment process.
