The Supreme Court refused to delay the NEET-PG examination, which is set for Sunday, dismissing a petition that raised concerns about exam centre allocations and the normalisation of marks for two different batches.
Bench Head and Chief Justice DY Chandrachud remarked, “We cannot devise a new education policy, and this is not a perfect world.”
The petitioners had argued that discrepancies in the difficulty levels of question papers for different batches might occur, and they requested that the normalisation formula be disclosed prior to the exams.
Additionally, they expressed frustration over the allocation of exam centres in locations that were inconvenient, with details being released only two days before the exam.
The court noted that allowing the petition could negatively impact “two lakh students and four lakh parents”, questioning whether the future of so many should be jeopardised for the sake of a few petitioners. Chief Justice Chandrachud asserted, “We cannot put the careers of so many candidates at risk just because of these petitioners.”
Senior advocate Sanjay Hegde, representing the petitioners, highlighted the difficulties of sitting for one exam in the morning and another in the afternoon. However, the Bench, which included Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, dismissed the plea, stating, “We are not entertaining” it.
Originally scheduled for June 23, the NEET-PG entrance exam had been postponed by the Union Health Ministry due to alleged irregularities in some competitive exams.
