PM Modi’s Visit: Schedule & Agenda
PM Modi’s itinerary includes arriving in Kannur at approximately 11 am, where he will begin with an aerial survey of the landslide-affected zones in Wayanad. At around 12:15 pm, he will visit the disaster-stricken sites and receive briefings from rescue teams on the ongoing evacuation and relief operations.
During his visit, PM Modi will closely evaluate the rehabilitation efforts to ensure effective aid reaches those affected by the tragedy. He is also expected to visit relief camps and hospitals housing victims and survivors. Later, the PM is likely to chair a review meeting with officials to discuss the status of relief efforts.
Landslide Impact & Response
On July 30, massive landslides hit the Chooralmala and Mundakkai areas of Wayanad, causing extensive damage and loss of life. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has requested the Central Government to declare the landslides a national disaster due to their severity.
Expressing gratitude, Opposition Leader and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi posted on X, “Thank you, Modi ji, for visiting Wayanad to personally take stock of the terrible tragedy. This is a good decision.” He added, “I am confident that once the PM sees the extent of the devastation firsthand, he will declare it a national disaster.”
Gandhi, alongside his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, had earlier visited the affected areas and pledged that the Congress party would build over 100 houses for the survivors.
The Kerala Government has announced immediate aid for the victims. A daily allowance of ₹300 will be provided to adult members of families, who have lost their livelihood, with support extended to up to three individuals per family if needed. Families residing in relief camps will receive immediate financial assistance of ₹10,000.
This response aims to ensure the swift relocation and support of those affected by the catastrophic landslides, addressing their immediate needs during this challenging time.
