The Assam Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has made significant decisions aimed at enhancing the State’s infrastructure and supporting its communities. In alignment with the 2020 Bodo Accord, the Cabinet has approved the incorporation of 19 villages into the Bodoland Territorial Region-BTR.
In another major development, the Cabinet endorsed the Land & Space Lease Management Policy, 2024. This policy is intended to position Assam as a prime destination for IT Parks and Electronics Manufacturing Clusters or EMCs. Managed by the Assam Electronics Development Corporation Limited or AMTRON, the initiative is expected to create 8,000 direct jobs and over 100,000 indirect employment opportunities.
To assist small traders, the Cabinet accepted a report from a sub-committee focused on addressing GST-related issues. This resolution aims to rectify thousands of cases dating back to 2017-2022, with the goal of resolving these cases within three months and reducing taxpayer inconvenience.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved amendments to the Moran Autonomous Council Act, 2020, and the Matak Autonomous Council Act, 2020, increasing the number of constituencies from 22 to 27 in both councils.
This move is intended to better represent the Moran and Matak communities. The Cabinet sanctioned the recruitment of 1,766 Graduate Mathematics Teachers in provincialised and government schools to improve educational standards.
