The Assam Government has unveiled a series of measures to support small traders dealing with issues related to Goods and Services Tax or GST notices. The State’s Cabinet has approved a report from a sub-committee dedicated to addressing these challenges, reflecting the administration’s focus on alleviating the difficulties faced by small businesses.
For the financial years 2017-18 and 2018-19, the Cabinet has approved the suo moto rectification of 26,013 cases under Section 161 of the Assam GST Act 2017. This rectification process will be carried out on a case-by-case basis and is required to be completed within three months, while adhering to the GST regulations.
For more recent cases from the financial years 2019-20, 2020-21, and 2021-22, the Cabinet has established new guidelines. Notices generated through Big Data Analytics Software or BDAS will be addressed according to the new Standard Operating Procedure-SOP. To avoid unnecessary distress for small traders, a threshold of Rs 5 lakh has been set for BDAS-generated notices.
These steps are expected to resolve issues within three months, aiming to balance compliance with the GST framework and minimising the burden on traders. The Assam Government’s initiative is designed to foster a more supportive environment for small businesses in the State.
