Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kannur at 11 am on Saturday and promptly headed to Kerala’s Wayanad district via an Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopter. Accompanied by Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and Union Minister of State Suresh Gopi, PM Modi conducted an aerial survey of the landslide-affected areas of Chooralmala, Mundakkai, and Punchirimattom villages.
During the aerial survey, the Prime Minister observed the origin of the landslide, located near the Iruvazhinji Puzha (River). Following the aerial inspection, PM Modi will conduct an on-ground assessment of the affected regions and will be briefed on the ongoing evacuation and rescue operations.
The PM is also scheduled to visit a relief camp where more than 10,000 displaced residents are currently sheltered. His visit will conclude with a review meeting, where he will receive a comprehensive briefing on the landslide and the ongoing relief efforts being coordinated in the aftermath of the disaster.
