Police in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir, have released sketches of four terrorists believed to have been recently spotted in the “higher reaches” of the district. A reward of ₹20 lakh has been announced for anyone providing actionable information leading to their capture.
The police issued a statement on X, saying, “Kathua Police releases sketches of 4 terrorists, who were last seen in dhoks (mud-houses) of Malhar, Bani & Seojdhar. A reward of Rs 5 lakh on each terrorist for actionable information. Anyone with credible information on terrorists will also be suitably rewarded.”
This development comes amid a series of terror incidents in the Jammu region. On June 9, a pilgrim bus was targeted in Reasi, resulting in the deaths of 11 passengers. This attack coincided with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in for his third consecutive term in New Delhi.
In another incident, on July 8, terrorists ambushed an Indian Army patrol in Kathua’s Machedi, leading to the deaths of five soldiers, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO). On July 15, four more soldiers, including a Captain, were killed in an encounter with terrorists in the Desa forests of Doda district.
During a visit to the Kargil War Memorial in Ladakh on July 26, marking the 25th anniversary of India’s victory in the Kargil War, Prime Minister Modi warned Pakistan against its ongoing support for terrorism. “Pakistan faced defeat whenever it carried out any misadventure. It has not learned any lessons from history… our soldiers will crush terrorism with full force, and the enemy will be given a befitting reply,” he asserted.
