In a gesture of solidarity, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has called on all ministers and MLAs to organise and share lunch with internally displaced persons or IDPs at numerous relief camps on Independence Day. He encouraged party leaders to engage with camp residents to understand and address their issues.
Speaking at the “Tiranga Concert” in Imphal, the CM highlighted the importance of initiatives such as the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, which promotes nationalism and unity. The event, held at the Manipur State Film Development Society, was part of the nationwide Independence Day celebrations and featured music and cultural performances.
The CM appealed to citizens to clean and pay tribute to the statues of freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the nation. He stressed the significance of maintaining national strength, especially in the face of current geopolitical challenges.
Additionally, Biren Singh directed the Director General of Police-DGP to organise a mass motorbike rally on August 15 and urged the people of Manipur to participate in various events, including rallies, street plays, marathons, and painting competitions.
“We must strengthen our nation to be self-sustained, which will help in protecting the country and its people,” said Biren Singh.
Meanwhile, Manipur Minister Letpao Haokip on Friday claimed that he was appointed to a committee investigating the influx of illegal immigrants and the unnatural growth of new villages in Manipur without his knowledge or consent.
