In response to a threat from the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent or ULFA-I, Assam’s security forces are on high alert. The militant group has called for a State-wide bandh starting at midnight on August 15, continuing until 6 pm the same day. Emergency services, media operations, and religious events will be excluded from this bandh.
Director General of Police GP Singh revealed that he was stationed in Upper Assam from August 6 to 9. During this period, he held extensive meetings with Assam Police, Central Armed Police Forces or CAPF, the Army, Assam Rifles, and various intelligence agencies.
“The key objective of these meetings was to ensure heightened vigilance and enforce strict measures to prevent any potential disturbances,” DGP Singh explained. “We have launched operations in border areas to counter or repel the militant group.”
In light of the threats, all parade grounds across the State have been thoroughly secured, and stringent security measures have been implemented. DGP Singh asserted, “We are confident that no genuine supporter of Assam would engage in actions that threaten the State’s hard-earned peace. However, the Assam Police is fully prepared for any eventuality.”
