Meghalaya has received a substantial ₹2,500 crore allocation from the Union Finance Ministry for the development of new road infrastructure under the Externally Aided Projects or EAP.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, accompanied by Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong, met with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on August 12 to discuss this funding. Following the meeting, CM Sangma shared the news on social media, expressing his appreciation for the Centre’s support.
“We had a productive meeting with Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and I extend my heartfelt thanks for the sanction of ₹2,500 crore for new road projects under EAP,” Sangma wrote.
In addition to road development, the CM sought the Finance Minister’s support for establishing growth hubs in New Shillong and other key areas.
Previously, the Union Ministry had approved ₹2,000 crore for enhancing road and logistics infrastructure under the Second Phase of the Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project (MITP). The MITP, also known as the Meghalaya Economic Growth Accelerator (MEGA) Corridor project, is being rolled out in phases, with the first phase implemented with ₹880 crore support from the World Bank.
The project will cover critical routes including Baejendoba-Resubelpara-Mendipathar-Damra, Shillong-Diengpasoh, and Pasyih-Garampani.
