Ohio Senator JD Vance strongly defended his Indian-American wife, Usha, after she was targeted by white supremacist Nick Fuentes in a racial attack. Since being selected as Donald Trump’s running mate, Vance and his family have faced increasing scrutiny, with Fuentes launching a derogatory tirade against Usha, focusing on her heritage.
In an interview on ABC’s The Week, Vance made his stance clear, “My attitude towards those attacking my wife is simple — she’s beautiful, she’s smart, and I’m a very lucky man to have married her,” he told host Jonathan Karl. Vance added, “If these guys want to come after me, fine. But don’t attack my wife. She’s out of your league.”
The Hillbilly Elegy author, known for his outspoken nature, asserted his wife’s steadfast support throughout his career. Vance’s comments came after Fuentes, who had previously dined with Trump, questioned Vance’s loyalty to “white identity” due to his marriage to Usha and their child named Vivek.
When pressed about Trump’s association with Fuentes, Vance downplayed the connection, noting, “Donald Trump doesn’t know anything about Fuentes, and frankly, doesn’t care for him.” Despite Trump’s lack of explicit condemnation of Fuentes, Vance defended the former president, stating, “Engaging with someone doesn’t mean endorsing their views.”
Vance expressed his frustration with the personal attacks but remained confident in his wife’s ability to handle the situation, stressing that the focus should be on him rather than his family.
