The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has once again solidified its status as Assam’s leading educational institution by securing the ninth position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024. The rankings, released by the Education Ministry, highlighted IIT Guwahati, Gauhati University, and the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar as the top performers from the State.
In this year’s NIRF rankings, IIT Guwahati not only maintained its place among the top ten institutions in Bharat but also excelled in the engineering category, where it ranked seventh. Following closely, Gauhati University and NIT Silchar secured the 57th and 92nd positions respectively in the overall rankings. NIT Silchar also distinguished itself in the engineering category, securing the 40th spot.
Gauhati University made impressive strides in the university category, advancing from its previous 88th position to 40th this year. Tezpur University, however, remained consistent, holding onto its 69th place. Notably, in the management category, Tezpur University was the only representative from Assam, ranking 95th.
In the field of pharmacy, the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) Guwahati achieved a commendable 12th position, with Dibrugarh University securing the 43rd spot. The National Law University and Judicial Academy (NLUJAA) Guwahati also performed well, ranking 27th among law schools in the country.
Assam Agricultural University also saw a positive shift, moving up from 19th to 14th in the agriculture and allied sectors category. Additionally, among state public universities, Gauhati University and Dibrugarh University were recognised, securing 13th and 28th positions respectively.
The NIRF 2024 rankings, unveiled by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Minister of State for Education Sukanto Majumdar at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, covered 13 categories including universities, colleges, engineering, and management.
